Celtic Cowboy Company Website Newsletter

Newsletter for August, 2013

I have not written a newsletter in over a year, because for most of the past year I have been in the fight of my life against cancer. I am fortunate to be able to report I have defeated my adversary, but not before losing a few battles. I am back up and running doing the things I enjoy - my family, working, gardening, writing and maintaining this website.

I enjoy sharing what I have found in my research and responding to your questions about those subjects I have information on. There is not much new information on most of the topics, because most existing leads have played out. But every once in a while a bon mot will appear and I will report it on the website. Thus, there is not much new to report, but there are a few listed below in the topic areas.

There is new materieal avialable regarding Dick Dowling from a book by Ann Caraway Ivins and Terry Collins, Dick Dowling, Galway's Hero Of Confederate Texas. Terry Collins continued the research and manuscript of Ann after she passed due to cancer. Ann was a contributor to my research as I was to hers. Another Dick Dowling follower was Larry Miggins who has also left us. Ann and Larry were the principals in founding the Dick Dowling Heritage Society. Hopefully one of his and Kathleen's many children to whom they passed on their appreciation of Irish culture will continue the good work.

There is also on the site some snippets from the Union side of the Battle Of Sabine Pass as reported by returning Yankees to their local areas and reported in that area's newspaper.

Additions were made to the section showing more graphics from Moran websites

.TRAYNORS

There are two sides to every story and in my direct family's case that other side of the Moran family is the Traynor family. Of course this changes as you go back or forward in generations, but in the case of my Father, his mother's maiden name is Traynor. That makes all my Father's brothers and sisters (13) and their children, and their children, etc. related as well. Kate Sullivan, daughter of my Father's sister Kae Moran (Sullivan), has built a website showing the Traynors and all the allied families. It has gotten to be quite a genealogical database and has provided many finds including the interrelationship of several of the same families over the generations and finding a large number of cousins in New Zealand. Kate Sullivan, daughter of Jim Sullivan and Kae MORAN Sullivan, who put together the TRAYNOR family genealogy. can be reached at this e-mail address:kategalway@yahoo.com That site is http://www.tribalpages.com the username is "Traynor" for the ID ( password), please e-mail Kate.

There have been a number of additions to this section of the website. Check out the V-List, images of Vought aircraft designs many of which never saw the light of day. The photographic section about Round Aircraft, Blended Wing Aircraft, Flying Wing aircraft and "Different" Aircraft has been expanded. Also, be sure and read about William S. Romme's "Merry Widow". Of interest to more than a few has been the story of Dan McGinty which is in the Romme article.

MISCELLANY

The University Of Texas 2013 football schedule is posted.

There is a new list of topics showing the subjects most viewed by visitors to the website. Depite my being away for a while, the website has maintained a rate of 16,000+ visitors a month for the past two years with a slight increase in the past few months.

This newsletter is for the readers of the website maintained by G. P. Moran at celticowboy.com. The website contains information on a range of subjects including Irish history, Texas history, early aircraft (particularly naval aircraft) history, Moran Family genealogy, Vought Aircraft and other subjects of interest to G. P. Moran and readers of the site.
