E-MAIL regarding Moran Familys:

This is from Patrick Edward Moran, author of Moran Exodus From Offaly -

here is yet another descent which I just received from a lady named Debbie Hinkle.

This provides descent to the present time from Elizabeth Moran, daughter of William Thomas Moran and his wife, Eleanor Lock. It ends with the name of Debbie's mother, but fails to state the name of her husband (Debbie's father); thus we do not know if Hinkle is Debbie's maiden name or her married name.

This additional information would be of interest in your main manuscript - and also as an addition to the long genealogy provided to you by Leigh Kendrick.

Again, my apologies for adding to your work load. Please feel free to ignore if you wish. But, it is rare that I receive a complete new line like this.

Hi Mr. Moran,

Yes, I am a descended of William Thomas Moran, and as you say Gabriel & Elizabeth. William Thomas Moran b 1724 was my ggggg-grandfather. His daughter Elizabeth Moran b.13 Jan 1769 married Thomas H Mitchell b 15 Apr 1767. Elizabeth is buried in the old Mitchell Cemetery in Boonville, MO. (I will find those pictures) Their child Charles B Mitchell married Nancy Miller, there son Nathaniel Lee Mitchell married Susan Hall, there son Charles Porter Mitchell married Mattie Ellen Byram, there son Sammie Alvin Mitchell married Pauline Lucille Crain who had my mother Ellen Louise Mitchell-Littles. Interesting enough, my ancestor Mattie Ellen Byram is a descended of John Alden, William Mullins and Francis Cooke of the Mayflower. My grandmother Pauline Lucille Crain is a descendant of "The Profit" which was Chief Tecumseh's brother. Somehow, the genealogy bug bit me.

Descendants of Austin Grady and Bridget Moran of Westport, County Mayo, Ireland and later Columbus and Cleveland, Ohio-

Gerard,
My name is Leroy Plymale. I too live in Texas. I am a descendant of Austin
Grady and Bridget Moran. They both listed Westport, Mayo County as their
place of birth. They were born around 1865. They immigrated first to
Paisley, Scotland. I do not know if they came with other members of their
families or not. I do not know if they were married prior to immigrating to
Paisely either. I know that their children, I know of 7, were born in
Paisely. Their son Michael immigrated to the U.S. in 1907. He stayed with
family in Cleveland. The original ship's manifest indicated that he stayed
with an aunt by the name of Nora Hanning. His wife followed a few months
later and at some time they made their way to Columbus, Ohio. In 1913, my
g-grandmother and her sister followed and in 1915 the rest of the family
followed except their brother, Austin Jr. Austin Jr. came over in 1920. A
search of the 1900 - 1920 Census shows a good deal of Grady's and Moran's
from Ireland in the Cleveland area. I have inherited many photographs that
belonged to my g-grandmother and her sister Annie McGuire. Some of them are
of Moran family members. Bridget's death certificate from 1935, indicates
that her father was John Moran of Westport and her mother was Mary. Have you
run across many Moran's or Grady's who settled in the Cleveland or Columbus
areas? I am fortunate to have access to the Ft. Worth branch of the National
Archives, but it does me little good with Irish records. How did you get so
much information on Mayo County? Did you travel to Mayo?
I enjoyed your website. I think you have the makings of a good book.
Hopefully, other Moran descendants will send you information on their
families. I think it would be interesting to try and tie them all together.
Regards,
Leroy Plymale Jr.

Morans of Texas via Oklahoma and North Carolina (Charles H. Moran)

Dear GP,
Thank you for your response.
I only wish that the Marmaduke Young Moran you describe was my ancestor, because I have seen some of his history already done by others, and that would make it easy for me. Unfortunately, my great grandfather, Marmaduke Young Moran is not the same one. I think that your Marmaduke was an uncle of my Marmaduke. I have been working on my Marmaduke for the past several years, and here is some of what I know.
He was born in Hays Co., TX, on Sept. 06, 1846. Served in the Civil War around the Galveston area. Married (Salina) Catherine Watson in Austin, Travis Co., TX in 1870. Their 9 children were born there (in Hays Co.) when Catherine (she went by Catherine, instead of Salina), died, in 1883, with birth of last child, Lucinda. I have names of all their children Oldest was John W. Moran, and my grandfather, James E. Moran was the fifth child.. After that, Marmaduke moved on to OK, where he lived out the rest of his life. He remarried Mattie (Wood) Nunn in 1902 near Clarita, Coal Co., OK. Due to an injury he did not walk for the last twenty or so years of his life, and filed for a Civil War pension around 1932. He died Nov. 17, 1939. He is supposed to be buried at Wilson Cemetery in double grave with 2nd wife, Mattie. However, I am not positive about that, since the gravestone does not have his death date engraved. Another of my dilemmas; how to prove he is or isn't buried there. Possibly, his 9 children (his heirs) wanted him buried someplace else. Mattie died about 6 months before he did, and files for her are found, but no files are found for him. There were no children of Marmaduke and Mattie's marriage. Mattie also had children from prior marriage.
Parents of my Marmaduke are proven to be Charles H. Moran (b. about 1814 in Halifax, N.C)., and Elizabeth Buckholts, married in Sumter, Alabama, in 1838. I have marriage record. Elizabeth Buckholts and her children were enrolled through adoption by the Council of the Choctaw Nation at Chata Tamaha, in Ok. She was descendant of Zadock Brashears, who was a signer of the Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek, in 1830. Parents of Elizabeth Buckholts were: Elizabeth "Betsy" Brashears and William H. Buckholts
I believe that Charles H. Moran was a brother to your Marmaduke Young Moran. Another brother was John T. Moran who witnessed Charles H.'s marriage to Elizabeth Buckholts..
Parents of the three brothers is believed to be Henry Moran and Sarah Young of Halifax Co., N.C. Sarah Young is believed to have had a brother named Marmaduke Young. Here are my "brick walls". Maybe you know something to help.

Birth date and parents of my Charles H. Moran (need proof) -- When, where, and how did Charles H. died ? (rumors are that he died of Small pox, or was killed).
Definite burial place of Marmaduke Young Moran.
Burial place of Marmaduke's first wife, (Salina) Catherine Watson (believed to be Driftwood, TX, in an unmarked grave near her parents.
I have a picture of my Marmaduke, his death certificate, his marriage record, and an obit.

Well, I hope I haven't overwhelmed you with all this. Just hoping you might offer some clues as to how I can solve my stumbling blocks. Many thanks. Dorothy (Moran) Newman (dnewman7earthlik.com)
