The cremated remains of these 100 men contained in a single casket were re-interred at the National Cemetery in Jefferson Barracks on September 27, 1949. Officials said at the time it was believed to be the largest mass burial ever conducted in the United States. Seventy -one of those buried were Americans who were from the U.S. Army (53), the U.S. Navy (5), the U.S.M.C. (4) and 9 civilians. The 29 others were soldiers from Britain (16), The Netherlands (10) and Australia (3). The burial ceremony was conducted by representatives of the Jewish, Catholic and Protestant faiths as well as government officials from each of the countries named. The grave is located in Section 85, grave # 82, 1B-1D.
